Job Title: Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Manager

 

Internal

Work collaboratively with all levels within the business, specifically with R&D, Business Units, Marketing, Legal, Corporate Affairs, Regional Brand Team and Manufacturing.

 

External

Work with key suppliers, regulators in government agencies (e.g. AVA, HPB, MOH, FDA, BPOM), food industry associations (e.g. SMF, FMM, FIA) and researchers.

Key responsibilities

Scientific & Regulatory Function

The incumbent will manage and provide strategic leadership and expertise to Business Units in terms of regulatory, scientific and nutrition support to Singapore, ASEAN (e.g. Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Philippines) Asia Pacific (Korea, China, Hong Kong, India and etc) and global markets; and strategically contribute to the long term growth and profitability of the F&B business of F&N Group

  • Advise business units on regulatory requirements for sale and import/export of food products and ensure compliance of all formulations, ingredients, products, packages, labels, claims with the relevant food laws and regulations of the various countries.
  • Special project assignments supporting product registration with various FDA for F&N Group.
  • Review and recommend raw material and packaging material for approval
  • Keep business informed on emerging regulatory issues and develop strategies to mitigate regulatory risks.
  • Support new product development and provide expert advice  on use of ingredients and claims
  • Provide regulatory training and/or update annually to R&D and business units.
  • Provide expert support and consultancy on issues relating to crisis management.    
  • Drive and manage stakeholder relationships to advance dialogue concerning products, ingredients, policies and scientific & regulatory matters.
  • Strategically lead and participate in trade and professional associations to drive company agenda.
  • Maintain and enhance network/relationships with external experts, government agencies, academia and industries on issues relating to nutrition, health, food safety, science and regulations to advance company position and leverage on opportunities as they arise.
  • Supervise and manage supporting staff; and develop competence and capability to ensure effective and efficient operation of the function

 

Skills/ Experience

 

The incumbent should be an experienced professional with 10-15 years ‘experience in the field of food scientific and regulatory management. He/she should have

  • Good knowledge of Singapore’s, ASEAN and global regulatory and political landscape affecting food and beverages.
  • Understanding of food additives and pesticides and how they are tested and regulated.
  • Understanding of nutrition science including how dietary patterns influence health and well-being, biological mechanisms through which nutrients affect metabolism, dietary patterns, activity levels and related medical conditions particularly obesity and NCDs.
  • Ability to interact with government officials to represent the Company or industry to explain complex scientific data, reports or issues.
  • Strong communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin, both written and oral is essential.
